On Tuesday 1 April, representatives of the Dutch and Flemish governments met up in Ghent. Cross-border cooperation was the main topic of discussion at this government summit. Cooperation with North Sea Port was also discussed. Major developments are therefore expected in the coming years.

North Sea Port is committed to improving the increasing use of bicycles by employees in the port. Over the next five years, it will create no less than 30 kilometres of safe cycling infrastructure. This was announced during the official opening of the new cycle path on Moervaart in Ghent.
North Sea Port, Smart Delta Resources, and the Province of Zeeland commissioned a feasibility study into an ammonia network from Vlissingen to Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The study found that transport via pipeline can be carried out safely and is economically viable, provided certain conditions are met.
On Friday 11 October Dutch king Willem-Alexander and Belgian king Philippe opened the larger New Lock in Terneuzen, North Sea Port. Their presence is indicative of the economic boost the lock has the potential to provide, associated with the arrival of larger seagoing vessels at Terneuzen and Ghent.
On Friday 11 October, His Majesty the King Willem-Alexander and His Majesty the King of the Belgians Filip jointly opened the New Lock in Terneuzen. This official ceremony underlines the important milestone for the Netherlands, Belgium, Flanders and our port area North Sea Port.
On Friday 11 October, the bulk carrier “Bregaglia” was the first mega ship to use the New Lock in Terneuzen. The ship left the new sea lock after King Willem Alexander and King Filip jointly performed the official opening ceremony.
Three kilometres of “smart” fencing is the first result of a series of physical security measures implemented by the “Stichting Veilige Zeehavens Zeeland” (Zeeland Safe Seaports Foundation). This foundation works together with government agencies, businesses and security services to make the port more resilient to crime, such as drug smuggling.
On Monday 27 May, the first sod was turned in Ghent for the major works on the R4 West East ring road around the Ghent part of the port area. By 2031, no fewer than 22 (intersection) points will be redesigned for safer traffic, cycling and integration with the port environment.
