“Our port carries an important social role and faces a wide and complex group of stakeholders every day… sometimes with opposing interests. It’s up to us to keep the balance steady between all these interests.”

“I find it incredibly rewarding to help shape two crucial transitions for us – sustainability and digitalisation – and to connect them with each other. Two particularly challenging journeys that we, as a port, undertake together with our partners.”

3 locations, 2 countries, 1 top port

North Sea Port pushed off in 2018, born from the merger of Zeeland Seaports and the Port of Ghent. With eight public shareholders from Flanders and the Netherlands, our port is unique in Europe: one cross-border whole, bigger than the sum of its parts, uniting economy, sustainability and people.

A shareholders’ committee and supervisory board keep us on track. From provinces to cities, from public representitives to experts: together they set the markers for growth and innovation. And so, our port powers ahead. Our eyes firmly fixed on 2030 and beyond.

Oversight with impact

Our port sails on more than the strength of its businesses and employees. The supervisory board unites experts and public leaders to keep our course and future firmly on track.

  • Four members from Flanders, four from the Netherlands: together they form a close-knit team. Political and independent talent complement one another, ensuring a balance between governance and fresh expertise.

  • Remuneration is clear and market-based, following Guberna’s advice. Independent members receive a fixed fee plus an additional fee per meeting, with a yearly ceiling. Politically active members serve without pay.
