Growing with vision

We’re steering towards a climate-neutral port by 2050; one that fuels broad prosperity. It takes bold action, teamwork and ambition. In five domains, we’re building a sustainable, leading European port that charts the course where economic growth and social value sail in unison.

Greater than the sum of its parts

Our port is a captain that wears many hats: job creator, innovation driver, sustainability investor. And we champion regional culture and craft. The result? A port that delivers economic strength and social value.

Economic impact

Employment, innovation and sustainability power the port’s progress. We invest in expertise, spanning advanced technology and the preservation of craftsmanship.

Liveability

Our port is bang in the middle of every day life. We aim for a fair balance between living, working and relaxing. With liveability front and centre.

Dialogue and public support

We don’t talk about our neighbours, we talk with them. Through North Sea Port District, we listen, weigh things up and shape plans that benefit our port and region.

A port that matters

We boost Europe’s competitiveness, energy security and circular economy, keeping our port a steady anchor in shifting times.

Action with impact — here’s how

Our course is clear. Through five key domains of action, we’re building a future-proof port: strong, smart and sustainable. This is how we remain a leading European port connecting people, economy and environment.

  • We aim to stay future-proof and among Europe’s top players. How? By anchoring companies here, supporting their growth, driving the shift to clean energy and attracting the essential goods that make it possible.

  • Safety isn’t a side issue — it’s our anchor. As risks grow and nations face increasing pressure, we strengthen our port and its surroundings. Through targeted investments in safety, security and collaboration, we help build a resilient society.

  • Space in and around the port is becoming scarce. That’s why we must make smart choices in how we use it. Water-related activities and companies contributing to sustainable energy, raw materials and multimodal logistics are key.

  • Our port runs on solid infrastructure. Together with our customers and partners, we improve access and connectivity: by rail, cross-border pipelines, roads, quays and digital innovation. That’s how we connect economy, industry and society.

  • The world is changing. That is why strong European cooperation is more important than ever. How? By connecting chains smarter: sea and inland shipping, rail and road, all in one fluid logistics system, driven by smart coordination and cooperation.

Our ambitions in motion

Ambitious plans need real action. We’re developing projects that make our port stronger, smarter and more sustainable. Each one moving us closer to the port of tomorrow. Dive in and see what’s already in motion!

North-C Circular

The name says it all: North-C Circular is all about a sustainable circular economy. Together with ArcelorMittal and the Flemish government, we are developing an iconic 150-hectare circular industrial site in our Ghent port area.

Cross-border hydrogen infrastructure

Together with our partners, we’re building Europe’s first cross-border hydrogen infrastructure: a pipeline network connecting industries across Northwest Europe.

Rail Ghent Terneuzen

The railway between Ghent and Terneuzen is getting a major upgrade, with a robust rail network will soon shape the future of sustainable freight transport.

Buffer zones and connection areas

We’re fully investing in green-blue infrastructure: a smart blend of nature and water. We do this by developing buffer zones and ecological connection areas around our port.
