In April 2026, Rijkswaterstaat will carry out major maintenance work on the Vlaketunnel (A58) near Kapelle. To ensure this work is carried out safely and efficiently, the tunnel will be completely closed for ten days and nights. This will, of course, have a significant impact on access to our port, particularly Vlissingen.
From mid-April until the end of this year, a significant amount of roadworks will be taking place around the Kluizendok in Ghent.

North Sea Port will further develop its position as a leading European port in the coming years by investing in the required port infrastructure, spatial development and solid logistics chains. The port authority will be focusing more strongly on enhancing security and resilience, as well as the port's immediate living environment. Under the title ‘Impact 2030’, the new strategic plan was announced at the North Sea Port Conference on Monday 17 November.
Many employees cycle to work in the port area. A new cycle tunnel connects the cycle path around the Kluizendok with the companies operating there. This makes commuting by bicycle in the port a lot safer and smoother.
On Friday, April 25, Volvo Cars reached a significant milestone with the start of European production of the EX30. This fully electric compact SUV will now also be manufactured at the company’s Belgian facility in Ghent, further strengthening the automotive cluster at North Sea Port.
On Tuesday 1 April, representatives of the Dutch and Flemish governments met up in Ghent. Cross-border cooperation was the main topic of discussion at this government summit. Cooperation with North Sea Port was also discussed. Major developments are therefore expected in the coming years.
Grote vrachtwagens en gespecialiseerde voertuigen mogen voortaan in het Gentse deel van de haven op de openbare weg rijden. Met de nieuwe regels kunnen deze havenvoertuigen veiliger ingezet worden. De Vlaamse Regering keurde hiervoor een nieuwe havenverkeersverordening goed.
