From mid-April until the end of this year, a significant amount of roadworks will be taking place around the Kluizendok in Ghent. This will affect through freight traffic heading to businesses on Christoffel Columbuslaan, Vasco da Gamalaan and the access roads surrounding the dock.

A number of wind turbines are being dismantled and new ones erected. The roundabout is being rebuilt and the tarmac resurfaced. These works will affect traffic.

Below is an overview of the works. The plans show the diversion routes and accessibility for each section.

Luminus: demolition of wind turbines

Several wind turbines (WT3, WT7 and WT9) have reached the end of their service life and are being demolished. We expect traffic disruption for two weeks per wind turbine.

Timing: mid-April to mid-May.

Diversion wt9 4/04 - 10/04

Diversion wt7 10/04 - 28/04

Diversion wt3 29/04 - 15/05

North Sea Port: modification of the Christoffel Columbuslaan – Vasco da Gamalaan roundabout

The roundabout is a key junction between the R4-West, the Kluizendok and the port area. Closing it completely is therefore not an option. Work will be carried out in two phases, with traffic alternating across the roundabout and using traffic lights.

The roundabout shows signs of serious damage (rutting, asphalt heaving, asphalt fraying, etc.) caused by significant torsional and braking forces. With a view to creating future-proof infrastructure, it will be converted to a concrete surface that can better withstand these forces.

Timing: mid-May to mid-September

Phase 1 25/05 - 9/07

Phase 2 31/08 - 22/09

North Sea Port: resurfacing of Christoffel Columbuslaan

The asphalt is damaged in several places and needs to be replaced. The sub-base needs to be repaired in places. The works will take place along the businesses on Columbuslaan. These works will be combined with those at the roundabout. However, the businesses will remain accessible at all times.

Timing: early August to late September.

Phase 2 31/08 - 22/09

Luminus: installation of new wind turbines (AC Materials, Zoutman)

There will only be significant traffic disruption during the construction of the new turbine at Zoutman.

Timing: early October to late November

Construction 29/09 - 23/10
