With the introduction of Port Pass, North Sea Port is committed to increased port security. The New Lock in Terneuzen has been operational since 1 August 2025. Now a new phase has begun: on Monday 29 December, a commercial trial voyage with a wider seagoing vessel took place on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, to ArcelorMittal in Ghent. This trial voyage is an important step in the further optimisation of North Sea Port's nautical accessibility.

From 1 January 2026, North Sea Port will be implementing a number of changes to the rates and conditions for maritime shipping, inland shipping and related sectors. These adjustments are aimed at cost neutrality, clarification and sustainability.

Flemish Ports Minister Annick De Ridder symbolically helped launch the construction of the new 380/150kV high-voltage substation Baekeland in Ghent on Monday 15 December 2025. As a result, North Sea Port and the surrounding industrial zones will have more and better access to electricity to support the energy transition. The first steps have already been taken: steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal Belgium will be directly connected to the new high-voltage grid from 2030.

With the introduction of Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) on Monday, December 1 (9 a.m.), the Permanent Commission for Supervision of the Scheldt Waterway has decided to reorganize traffic guidance on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. As a result, North Sea Port will no longer be able to offer its services on VHF channel 11.

Effective immediately, Maarten den Dekker will permanently assume the position of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) on the executive board of North Sea Port. Peter Van Parys will henceforth, as Chief Operations Officer, also be responsible for digitalisation. 

North Sea Port has finalised the issuance of the unique seaport site formerly occupied by Bulk Terminal Zeeland in Vlissingen to BOW Terminal. With the signing of the long lease, the issuance is now complete, further positioning North Sea Port as a leader in the offshore industry.
