Data Community in North Sea Port

Various companies in North Sea Port are active in the Data Community. Together with the port authority, they are strengthening the digital port ecosystem, with a special focus on the nautical and logistics chain and safety.

In recent years, the port community has made a strong commitment to sustainability, circularity and energy transition. Digitalisation was another theme that needed to be tackled jointly, while pressure from the government is increasing with stricter regulations, market developments and technological innovations. With the Data Community, a joint step is being taken to increase the digital strength of the region and strengthen the competitive position of companies in the Dutch-Flemish port of North Sea Port. 

Two priorities

The Data Community focuses on two main themes:

  1. Smart digital collaboration in the chain
    Better information exchange and digital coordination within the nautical and logistics chain will make the arrival and departure of ships more efficient and reliable.
  2. Collective approach to safety and security 
    Collaborating on a uniform and centralised approach to identity and access control in the port and at affiliated companies. 

From pilot to implementation

The Data Community is working on concrete improvements, which are being implemented step by step. The aim is to provide a secure and trusted platform via the North Sea Portal: the digital hub for targeted and secure data exchange within the region.

The Data Community is currently working on two projects:

  • Improving information exchange so that the right data is available at the right time.
  • Digital solutions for identification and access systems at companies that want to modernise their security. We will soon be launching an innovative approach to this. 

The Data Community marks an important milestone in the transition to a more data-driven approach within the port region. Collaboration between companies and the port authority, which operates the port, allows us to maximise knowledge sharing, innovation and collective progress. In this way, we are creating a platform with a view to a future-proof and competitive port.
